Alteration and Additions | Two doctors owned this property, with very busy lives. The clients wanted to achieve they had two dogs that were a big part of their life. They wanted a house that they could entertain, that could be used for family and friends. A conventional project single story home, they liked the chalet style, with the idea of a roof attic living, which the client had sent pictures of to show the idea of what why wanted. The first story addition was intended entirely given over to bedroom, living and ensuite. This was a shared family home with other members of the family, (owners sister) was intending to live in the downstairs, and the doctors to live upstairs in the loft-style retreat. The flooring used was a hybrid style so that the dogs could not damage it. All the internal flooring was designed to be hard-wearing. The walls were fibre cement sheeting to withstand the dogs wear-and-tear.
The upstairs retreat has a large bathroom with bathtub and view out to the tree canopies. The privacy was paramount, but with a view up and out to the trees. There was also a sitting area along with a computer and study area, doctor did a-lot of research and development for his work, so a study nook was important for her. The whole first floor area, from bedroom, reading area, study area, luxe bathroom. with bath, ensuite, bedroom with large wardrobe.
The downstairs was a large living for her sister, but still had to maintain a kitchen to be shared by the two families. A recent trip to Japan inspired her to have a sunken dining area which could be closed up with a panel to act as a normal floor when not in use.
